Thermage

Synonyms - ThermaLift, ThermaCool

What is Thermage?

Thermage is a non-surgical, non-invasive procedure developed by a San Diego Dermatologist. Thermage radiofrequency energy activates deeper skin tissue to stimulate collagen production. This results in skin tightening without injury to the skin surface.

What specific areas can benefit from Thermage?

Studies to date have shown that tightening skin in certain key areas can be advantageous for cosmetic improvement. Thermage treatment of the skin of the upper neck can tighten that area, as seen in the above before and after photographs. Treating the jawline and cheeks can also reduce jowls, as seen in the photographs below.

Thermage thermalifting of the forehead can elevate the eyebrows to make the eyes appear more open and less tired.

Initial consultation

Dr. Lozinski, an experienced Cosmetic Dermatologist, will assess whether you can benefit from Thermage treatment. Some patients are good candidates for other modalities (i.e., the newer radiofrequency microneedling Morpheus8, AccuTite, neuromodulator, IPL Photorejuvenation, neck liposuction, fillers such as Juvederm, Voluma, Restylane, Belotero, or Teoxane RHA) and medical grade skin care products.

What can I expect during a Thermage treatment?

Three hours are allotted for the Thermalift procedure. As the machine is repeatedly activated, a coolant is released by the treatment tip to protect the top layer of skin while the mid and deep layers are simultaneously heated for a fraction of a second at a time. Prescription analgesics, given in-office, make this procedure much more tolerable but preclude driving yourself home afterwards. We can also supplement with nitrous oxide (laughing gas).

Some patients experience minimal redness afterward, which disappears within an hour. Short-term swelling, bruising and discomfort are very uncommon and tiny crusting requiring antibiotic cream is rare. The vast majority of patients return to normal activities on the next day, with no need for hiding or "down-time".

When will I see results?

Some patients experience positive results within a few days but most see a gradual change over a four to six month period. The advantage of gradual improvement is that "no one needs to know". We take before and after photographs to help you see these changes.

How many treatments will I need?

Many patients see some tightening after one single treatment. Others opt for repeat sessions. You could, technically, have a repeat treatment after one month, but remember that most do not develop maximum tightening for 4 - 6 months after Thermage.
